As part of the pipe gallery is constructed under important traffic lines, the pipe jacking method will be adopted for construction of the underground pipe gallery section, and the open-cut method for the remaining. However, the joint design and construction are critical issues. A novel pipe gallery joint structure and construction method are proposed, including a combination of open-cut construction and pipe jacking with small spacing between two holes, to ensure the structural safety and stability, effectively reduce costs and achieve good waterproofing effects. This fills the gap of China in the pipe gallery joint construction through a combination of open-cut and pipe jacking methods.
